Earthworms delay flights at Kathmandu airport

Video clip of Tribhuvan International airport. Nepal's only international airport is often forced to delay international flights, both arriving and departing, due to a huge number of earthworms crawling on the runway.

This airport is surrounded by high terrain/mountains all the way round from 9,500' to the south to 29,000' to the north East. For a jetliner there is only way one in and the approach starts some 17 miles south at 11,500' and follows a steep descent profile to about 4nm at 5800' where the profile flattens to the standard approach 3 degrees. Typically the Summer monsoon and BIG CB (Thunderstorm clouds) that sit on the approach path makes it somewhat interesting!
