The Unified CPN (Maoist) has called for forging consensus returning the report the Constitutional Political Dialogue and Consensus Committee (CPDCC) forwarded to the Constituent Assembly back to the committee. A meeting of the UCPN (Maoist) Parliamentary Party held at its office in Singha Durbar today stressed that the basis of formulating the constitution is the 12-point understanding reached among the parties in the past, the Interim Constitution, the Comprehensive Peace Accord and the agreements and understandings sealed with various sides. It concluded that consensus is the best alternative for constitution writing. Chief Whip of the UCPN (Maoist) Parliamentary Party, Giriraj Mani Pokharel, said the meeting concluded that the report of the CPDCC should be returned to the committee for reaching consensus on the contentious issues of the constitution and also decided to reject a constitution to be framed on the basis of majoritarian process.
