The Weather Forecasting has reported that there will be continuous heavy rainfall starting from Wednesday through to Friday. With incessant rain expected for the next two days and part of Saturday, experts say that this may wreak havoc in the landslide-hit area in Sindhupalchowk district. According to them, the rainfall may even trigger further landslides and hinder efforts to unclog the Sunkoshi River. On August 11, the government had directed the Nepal Army to open a second channel in the landslide debris to drain out the dammed up river. The residents of Jure along the Arniko Highway had no warning. Most of them were asleep when the whole side of a mountain fell on their homes. Also, The Sunkoshi flood has cut off Araniko Highway, the lifeline of Nepal-China trade. With about 1.5 km of the Jure segment of the highway badly damaged by landslide.
