Confusion surrounds Modi's Janakpur visit

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Janakpur has been cancelled. The Indian Embassy informed about the cancellation of Modi’s visit to Janakpur by informing a Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs who looks after India affairs. A source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also informed that the Indian PM’s visit to Lumbini and Muktinath have also been cancelled. Indian PM Modi was scheduled to visit the places during his visit to Nepal in connection with the 18th Saarc Summit due to be held in Kathmandu later this month.Confusion has surfaced over the proposed visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Janakpur after a cabinet minister on Thursday announced cancellation of the visit even as security agencies continued expediting the necessary security arrangements on Friday. A security team led by Home Secretary Surya Silwal reached Janakpur to make necessary security arrangements for a public reception for Indian Prime Minister Modi to be organized by Janakpur residents at local Barha Bigha Maidan. The team comprised chief of Nepal Police Upendra Kanta Aryal, Armed Police Force chief Kosh Raj Onta and National Investigation Department´s Jeet Bahadur KC.
