Nepal Army opened an alternative track.

After two weeks of relentless efforts at the initiative of the private sector, a track has been opened through the Sunkoshi landslide on Wednesday. The government had recently said that it was impossible to open a track before the lake subsided.A landslide in the wee hours of August 2 had deposited debris in the Sunkoshi River, creating a 35-meter deep artificial lake. The lake has submerged around one and half kilometers of the highway - the backbone of Nepal-China trade - and cut off links to Tatopani Customs Point. Following the direction, Nepal Army on Sunday dropped two disassembled excavators on the other side of the Sunkoshi River to dig a second channel. If things go as planned, the second channel will be opened within two days, officials say.
