A 60-year-old woman was shot dead near her residence at Gamhariya VDC-5 in the Sarlahi district on Wednesday morning.The deceased has been identified as Amrita Devi Mahato, 25 of Nokelba VDC-5, confirmed Police Inspector at the District Police Office, Birendra Thakur. She was gunned down at around 2.00 am today while she was asleep at her room. Phul Mohammad Ansari, the victim’s son, said some local people tried time and again to prove that she was a ‘witch’. About one-and-a-half years ago, some villagers had a serious dispute with the victim’s family over the issue of witchcraft charge.
