Sickle cell anemia thought rampant among Tharus

Posted by Anup Baral July 19, 2014 :
Sickle cell diseases are inherited hematological diseases, prevalent in certain parts of the world. Pardeshu Chaudhary of Khailad VDC-3 in Kailai district was still in his teens when he developed acute pain in his hands and legs.

In the course of his medical treatment, his parents took him to almost every medical center in the district and even to India, but doctors were unable to diagnose his malady. They could not explain why his body failed to produce enough blood like a normal human being. A month ago, Pardeshu breathed his last at the age of 28, his problem still a mystery to local medical practitioners and to his greaving parents.
