The CPN-UML has failed to materialise its commitment to make sure that at least one third of the total participants in the ninth General Convention are women. Although the CPN (UML) has mentioned 33 percent women participation in its manifesto, it has not materialized in the ninth general convention of the party.
The UML has the strength of 265,000 organised cadres. There are 2,182 representatives in the convention, of which only 341 are women.Out of 2,182 representatives, five percent women representatives are yet to be nominated. After the nomination of five percent representatives, the number of women representatives will reach 400, which is only 18 percent.The lesser participation has prompted the party’s women wing-All Nepal Women´s Association-to pressurise the leadership to develop strong mechanism to ensure at least 33 percent participation of women in any central body and 50 percent in local bodies.
