Police have arrested five persons in Dharan for allegedly operating a betting racket cashing in on the World Cup football-2014. .
The racket was primarily based in Dharan but was running its activities across the country in partnership with Kathmandu-based casinos, said police. "Our preliminary investigation has revealed that these racketeers have connection with Kathmandu-based casinos," said DSP Sanjay Singh Thapa. "But they have yet to admit their links with Kathmandu-based casinos." The police said they were tipped-off about the racket quite early but succeeded in raiding the betting place just before the first semi-final game between Germany and Brazil.
