Myanmar's democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi in Nepal

Posted by Anup Baral June 6th 2014 :
Myanmar democracy icon and opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi is in Nepal on a four-day official visit . She landed at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) at 12:30 pm. During her stay she will address the Constituent Assembly and deliver a lecture on the relevance of social democracy. The Nobel peace laureate and leader of Myanmar’s National League for Democracy was invited by Prime Minister Sushil Koirala to attend the centenary birth celebrations of late prime minister BP Koirala.

The former political prisoner-turned-politician San Suu Kyi, 68, was released from years of house arrest in 2010, and a quasi-civilian government led by former general Thein Sein has since pushed reforms that have ended sanctions and overturned Myanmar's status as a global pariah.
