The government has declared 72 new municipalities across the country. The declaration followed the proposal put forward by the Federal Affairs and Ministry of Local Development.
According to Spokesperson of government and Minister of Information and Communication Dr. Minendra Rijal additional 72 municipalities, including previously-proposed 37 municipalities in line with the Local Self-governance Act 1999. A cabinet meeting held at the Prime Minister´s Office, Singha Durbar Thursday announced 72 new municipalities which included 41 declared earlier but unimplemented. Moreover, the meeting decided to accept three billion rupees for the community irrigation projects to be operated by the Asian Development Bank.
