The installation of solar lamps is being carried under the NEA´s street lamp improvement project which is supported by the government and the Asian Development Bank. The NEA has planned to install around 1,600 solar lamps in the major streets in capital in view of the SAARC Summit. Baneshwor, Sundhara and Bhadrakali areas are already equipped with solar lamps. The installation is going on in other areas at war footing. Each lamp is 40 megawatt. The installation of solar lamps in the valley streets would provide relief to the capital denizens during load-shedding hours, NEA officiating executive director Ramchandra Pandey said.   The installation of solar lamps which will be done in two phases is expected to cost Rs 110 million.
