‘Artificial’ shortage of cooking gas riles lawmakers

Posted by Anup Baral January 01, 2015 :

Lawmakers have expressed dissatisfaction with the government ‘apathy’ towards the control of black-marketing of cooking gas taking place in the country ‘in connivance’ of gas industries and dealers. Accusing gas industries and dealers of creating artificial shortage of cooking gas, they vented ire at the government for failing to punish them and to protect consumers’ rights. At a meeting of the Industry, Commerce and Consumer Welfare Committee of Legislature-Parliament today, Committee President Bhisma Raj Angdangbe objected to the government unwillingness to enforce the committee previous directions for addressing consumers’ rights. It is a matter of serious concerns that the government is not serious towards the implementation of the committee directions issued for discouraging artificial shortage of cooking age, oil theft and air fuel scandal.
