Four Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGs) are retiring on last week Wednesday after the Nepal Police Headquarters refused to promote them to Additional Inspector General of Police (AIGs) in compliance with the Supreme Court order. The four DIGs shall now go on a voluntary retirement following completion of their five-year tenure. According to Nepal Police rules, the officials go on retirement if they remain as DIG for more than five years. The Supreme Court on September 25 had ordered the government to promote the four DIGs in the vacant positions if any or by creating special positions to secure their promotion effective from August 14, the day government had promoted nine other DIGs. “The police officials have already been promoted to AIGs by Supreme Court. They will work in status of AIGs and present themselves at headquarters from Wednesday,” said Poudel.
