The Weather Forecasting has reported that there will be continuous heavy rainfall starting from Wednesday through to Friday. With incessant rain expected for the next two days and part of Saturday, experts say that this may wreak havoc in the landslide-hit area in Sindhupalchowk district. According to them, the rainfall may even trigger further landslides and hinder efforts to unclog the Sunkoshi River. On August 11, the government had directed the Nepal Army to open a second channel in the landslide debris to drain out the dammed up river. Two excavators were disassembled and airlifted to the disaster-hit site to supplement efforts to release more of the landslide-trapped river water.
