Student leader arrested for illegal possession of weapons and killing deer

Student leader among 5 are arrested for illegal possession of weapons and killing deer. Metropolitan Police arrested five persons, including a former student leader Shubha Ram Basnet, on the charge of illegal possession of weapons. The five have been remanded to custody for four days. Mr. Basnet is close to the Nepali Congress and was the president of Free Students Union at Shankar Dev College five years ago.

The five were arrested near Bhimdhunga while returning from Dhading district at around 3:00 am following a special tip-off. "They were returning to Kathmandu by taxi (Ba 11 Ja 7660) and three weapons and ammunition were found in the dicky of the taxi," he said. According to police, they recovered two 2.2 Magnum rifles with 54 rounds of ammunition and a 12-bore shotgun with 16 rounds of ammunition from the vehicle.
