Prime Minister Sushil Koirala will be attending the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Monday.
Koirala will visit India for the first time after assuming office some three months ago at the invitation of Modi, whose Bharatiya Janata Party swept the recently- concluded Lok Sabha polls. Furthermore, The cabinet meeting today approved Koirala's visit programme, according to the Prime Minister's Office. In his congratulatory message, Mr Koirala had said he looks forward to working with Mr Modi to strengthen bilateral ties.Apart from Koirala, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Bangladesh Premier Sheikh Hasina, Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai, Bhutan’s Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay and Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom have been invited for the ceremony. While all the other heads of government of SAARC nations have indicated they will respond positively to the invitation, Pakistan’s prime minister is likely to skip the visit, according to media reports as of Wednesday.
